Overview

Vocal Buddy ("the App") is a vocabulary learning app for iOS and macOS. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.

Data We Collect

• Vocabulary data: Words, definitions, example sentences, and learning status that you add or sync through the App.
• Account credentials: Email and password used to authenticate with the sync service. Passwords are transmitted securely and never stored in plaintext.
• Voice conversations: When you start a spoken conversation, your microphone audio is streamed live to OpenAI for the duration of the call so the model can hear and reply to you. We do not record the audio, and we do not store it on our servers. Words the conversation surfaces are saved to your vocabulary only when you choose to keep them.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect analytics, usage data, or device identifiers.
• We do not use third-party tracking or advertising SDKs.
• We do not access your contacts, photos, location, or any other personal data.

How Data Is Stored

Vocabulary data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. If you enable cloud sync, your vocabulary is also stored on our server (Cloudflare Workers with D1 database) to enable synchronization across your devices.

Third-Party Services

Two providers are involved, and no others:

• Cloudflare hosts the sync server and its database.
• OpenAI powers the spoken conversations and generates definitions, phonetics, and example sentences for words you save. Microphone audio during a call, and the word or sentence being explained, are sent to OpenAI to produce that response. Your account credentials are never sent to OpenAI.

We share your data with no one else, and we do not sell it.

Data Deletion

You can delete individual words from the App at any time. Deleting a word removes it from both local storage and the sync server. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the email below.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
